Spread ‘Em

I XO me some football

I’m getting a late start on this, but I am going to start picking games against the spread each week.  We will find out at the end of the season if we should all start gambling or stick with our day jobs.  Here we go.

Baylor at TEXAS A&M
Open – 10
Current -9
I’m taking A&M.  They need a big win against a decent opponent and I expect them win by 14.

Iowa State at MISSOURI
Open -16
Current -14.5
I’m taking ISU and the points on this one.  Paul Rhodes has a decent team that keeps shooting themselves in the face.  Now is the time for them to pull together as a team and eliminate mistakes.  If they do that, I see a 7 point loss at the worst.

Open 6
Current 7.5
Texas has a lopsided win against mistake-prone ISU and beat down of themselves against an Oklahoma team that I am not sure can handle Oklahoma State.  I’m taking Oklahoma State to cover all the way, and probably by more than two touchdowns.

LSU at Tennessee
Open 15.5
Current 14.5
Take LSU.  They are good, and will cover in this one.

Florida at AUBURN
Current -1
Florida is getting 1 point on the road to a dangerous Auburn team.  I don’t like Florida in this game because Auburn is so unpredictable.  They’ve had a game each week, and by that I mean it’s been pretty close every week, save for the beating Arkansas gave them last week (unexpected by me, I might add).  Auburn is the best 2-loss team in the SEC, and I expect them to win more in the 5-7 point range.

Open -3
Current – 3
Michigan is getting three points in this battle of instate rivals.  I’m inclined to think Michigan State will outright lose this game.  Michigan is much improved, but what the talking heads on radio and TV say about the Wolverines and Brady Hoke don’t really matter.  Here’s what matters.  I’m afraid of Denard Robinson.  I’m taking Michigan in the upset.

Northwestern at IOWA
Open – 7
Current – 6
Northwestern has Iowa’s number.  I’m the biggest Iowa fan in the world, but this spread scares me, in part because of past performance against Northwestern and in part because of the complete failure of the offense last week against Penn State.  I’m sure the Iowa coaching staff will make adjustments, but I’d take Northwestern and the points, and hope Iowa can pull it out with a field goal.

Ohio State at ILLINOIS
Open – 3.5
Current – 4.5
Ohio State let one get away last week against Nebraska.  I doubt they let that happen again.  Taking OSU and the points.

That’s it for this week.  Good luck! (to both you and me!)
