Tecmo at 20: New York Jets Part 3

Quite possibly the greatest game of all-time

WRITTEN BY GREG

Part 3 of the New York Jets magical run in the 20th season of Tecmo Super Bowl continues.

To summarize the first 8 games, the Jets have rolled off 8 straight victories and are perched atop the AFC East, having already defeated the Bills and Dolphins.  Little known backup running back Johnny Hector leads the team in scoring with 22 touchdowns and his streak of Excellent health continues through this next recap.

This segment will document the exploits of the Jets in Games 9-12, following the bye week in Week 9.

GAME 9:  NEW YORK JETS (8-0) @ GREEN BAY PACKERS (5-3)

Hector

JETS                           47          89 rush / 209 pass

PACKERS                  10           18 rush / 107 pass

Green Bay was tied for 1st in the NFC Central, but lost a lop-sided game to the upstart Jets 47-10.  While the Packers were the most capable team moving the ball via the air against a tough Jets pass defense, they could do little about MVP Johnny Hector and his 5 rushing touchdowns.

SCORING SUMMARY:

NYJ  Johnny Hector 11 yard rush

GB   Chris Jacke 37 yard field goal

NYJ  Pat Leahy 27 yard field goal

NYJ  Hector 11 yard rush

Hector

COLTS              3       2 rush / 66 pass

JETS                 65       110 rush / 258 pass

The Colts were utterly ravaged by the Jets this season.  This 65-3 beat down followed a 58-0 pasting earlier in the year as Indianapolis was outscored 123-3 by New York.  Brad Baxter took back his 2nd kickoff for a touchdown in this one and Johnny Hector once again made headlines with his 4 rushing touchdowns.

New England put up a fantastic fight against the division-leading Jets by rushing for 232 yards, but could not top the 3 rushing scores from Johnny Hector or the 3 passing touchdowns from Ken O’Brien as New York pushes to 10-0.

O'Brien

JETS                           53        103 rush / 348 pass

CHARGERS              21        178 rush / 33 pass

A cross-country flight wasn’t enough to break the Jets’ undefeated season as New York cruised to a 32 point victory against the Chargers.  Ken O’Brien amassed 4 total touchdowns (2 rushing) to topple San Diego and a nice day by Marion Butts.  Dennis Byrd’s 2 safeties were immediately followed by Johnny Hector touchdown rushes in the 2nd half to secure the win.
