SPECIAL REPORT: BONNAROO

I’ve never been to a music festival before.

This is an utter shame, considering I’m a 23-year-old, self-proclaimed music junkie. I listen to music when I wake up, drive to work, sit at my desk, take my lunch break, drive home. Once I get home, (*wannabe hipster alert*) I usually strum a few tunes on my ukulele or listen to some vinyl (at least I don’t drink PBR, ok?)

I’ve been to concerts before, sure, but never a full-blown, weekend-long, camp-in-a-tent music festival. Until now.

This afternoon, I’m driving the family minivan from Chicago to Manchester, Tennessee, for Bonnaroo—a four-day, multi-stage camping festival on a 700-acre farm.

That’s right. I’m going all out. And documenting it for you folks at home through a little music festival stereotype scavenger hunt.

Here’s what I’ll be on the hunt for:

  1. Long hair – I’m talking about someone who probably doesn’t even know what the inside of a hair salon looks like. A gal (or dude) with long, past-the-butt, down-to-the-knees hair.
  2. Short shorts – Gettin’ a little cheeky.
  3. Tiny girl with huge dreads
  4. Ridiculously oversized sunglasses – Like Johnny Depp’s Willy Wonka glasses
  5. ‘60s Time Traveler – Hoping for someone who drove the same van to Woodstock 1969 and Bonnaroo 2012.
  6. PBR – This just has to be on the list.
  7. Passed out unfortunately – The ultimate sign of a crazy time and horrible hangover.
  8. Feathers and jean fringe – The perfect combination of Native American and ‘80s rocker.
  9. Hula hoops
  10. Tiny kid, hippie parents – Starting them young.
  11. Epic mullet – Fingers crossed for a Keifer Sutherland lookalike.
  12. Face tattoo
  13. Painted chick—Who said paint doesn’t count as clothes?
  14. “Legalize it”—Someone at a music festival who supports legal weed? No problem.
  15. Cyndi Lauper hairDouble points for tribal face paint.

Wish me luck!
